Presentation sheets.

Well for a smart looking hand in I did my presentation sheets. And pretty pleased with them. All descriptive enough and easy to follow and should look good in my portfolio. Next up evaluation.

Super imposed.

Decided to apply the identity to some bits it would be seen onto. Memory stick T-shirt. Also all the below designs are being put into presentation sheets for a cleaner hand in format.

Annual Report.

Also from recieving some feedback about my website I have made another change. Which is nudging the left hand side tabs closer together. As fellow class mates suggested there was too much space. Apart from this I think the website is finished and I dont see no reason to touch the annual report, unless I recieve more constructive criticsm.

Website attempt part two.

Gave it another go on the website. And pretty pleased with how its turned out. Everything before seemed a bit too IN YOUR FACE but to get away from this Iv made things slightly more ordered. Reduced the size of some of my text.
Done it as though the viewer has clicked onto meadowhall. Which has brought up images and a description. The same would happen on other portfolio peices.

Website attempt.

Made an attempt at mocking up a portfolio website page. Jus a bit of something extra to hand in and something else to apply identity too.
Unfortunately this will not be the finished/ end product because im not happy with how it looks. So a lot of adjustments will take place. Maybe having a left hand side tab. But I wont the pink to be a strong prominent colour among a lot of the ledgard jepson stuff. I think i used the right amount on previous stationary so wil attempt to do the same here.
Im also in the process of mocking up a annual report front cover.

Stationary done.

Stationary is finished. Changes I have made is round cornered off the compliments to match the business card, because for some weird reason it looks more friendly, no reasonable explanation for that, just what I think. And basically just a few moving/ adjustment tweaks.

With compliments.

Gave the compliments slip a go today. And really pleased with the end result. Dont think Ill touch it again. Wasn't much trial and error, everything fell into place nicely so I shall be keeping it like this.Kept within the theme so everything looks consistent.
At the moment Im just touching up my business cad, that's all there is left to do, and do some presentation sheets.
Iv also finished my letterhead with some minor tweaking and added some contact information of Dave Exleys.

Business cards attempt three.

Yet more colours layouts Iv played about with. I'm definitely favoring round edges, and landscape, although the portrait is pretty different. Still yet to decide though.
Also what I liked is one I went for, which I played a dangerous game on, is the centre typed ones. Not really seen it before on a portrait card looks less restricted and to what you would typically see.
Colours I like is still the pink (top left) Orange looks good in my opinion. And the green needs tweaking as the green could be a possibility.
The Blue, Turquoise, Grey and black are not favorites so probably will go no further.

I have also gone over the letterhead too. With some slight positioning of the Ledgard Jepson address and added a logo at the bottom that I think almost works as a company signature in a way. Or that could just be me. Also think I need to add phone numbers, email address for Dave Exley onto it. Although not sure if its technically needed. If so I may just put it underneath the top logo.

Letterhead attempt.

Now Iv started with my letterhead. And its proving difficult to get things to stand out. A lot more work needs to be done on placing, and more stuff to be added but heres where I am at the moment.

Business card attempts part two.

More attempts at business cards, to try and head in the right direction.
Still yet to make a decision on which one to go ahead with, and unsure on what colours to use. Although when discussing the issue of colour with my tutor, we thought it clever that for different people in the company that it could change, either from personal choice or the employee or maybe like certain colour depicts a certain ranking.
The black and white version will certainly not be used again.
Personal favourites are the pink, orange, purple maybe blue, although it would have to be one that stands out against the grey, which one below doesn't.

Business card attempts.

From solving my logo. Thought it best to attempt my business cards. And I have. Although come up with alternate formats, colours etc. So now, like I always end up doing, I have to decide which one to run with. Also my 4line idea. Got changed in one idea. And just ran as one line. Which gave me another idea toward stationary, to have it running down the side of the letter.

Decision up to now is to obviously run with the top right idea, because it is following my actual logo, but the others were just to see how it could look in different possible ways.
I will post more formats based around the top right idea next.
Colours may vary though.

Small adjustment.

From posting the final logo below. I keep looking at it and disliking the background colour so I have updated it with a lighter colour.
What I dislike up to now is the quality that blogger shows my work at. So you'll have to trust me when I say it doesn't actually look that fuzzy/ pixelated. Stupid Blogger.

Fixed.

After gaining feedback from the crit, I set to work on changing the logo. But after exploring different idea's and help from my tutor I came up with something a tad different. Still like the previous idea, jus minor changes that make a totally different look.

Changes made where two different colours, although the colours could change in different situations (website, different employees business cards etc), background colour, which could also change in the, either all together, or different scenarious future.
Also I originally broke it up into 3 different words, but this seemed pointless so I split it to syllables thus becoming four words.
Next thing to do is apply it to stationary, business card, website etc.

The crit.

The Crit. So I presented my idea's. (Various concepts above) Went through what I had done, and what I would be doing for my final. Got the nod to say, yes carry on with that idea. So I will be. Feedback was that two of the letters on my design didnt have to be so close to the O and should just sit normally. Also that the spaces/ holes in the letters that I filled shouldnt be filled. So I will be solving this with some tweaking and will have a final to run with.

Aspects I personally like is the colour, its brighter more exciting than the original Ledgard Jepson logo (grey) and the font. Really pleased with how the words fit tightly together and how bold enough the font is to grab attention.

What to do next is to get this logo where its needed. Onto business cards, compliments slip, letterheads. But I dont want to just typically place them on and job done. I would rather do some different in terms of layout, to break away from typical/ normal looks.

What I realised from the crit came from David Exley, that we have the chance to be creative, we think too corporate. So from this I want to be more adventurous with what I do next with the stationary.

Development part three.

Now Iv carried on with the below concepts, into different fonts, places etc. I stuck to this light blue colour, yet again because I prefered it this way.

I then went onto a previous font which i prefered on my previous post (DOCK11 Font) And started tweaking the idea into the below form. And after carefull consideration I have gone with the last idea (bottom right). Where all the seperate words have been nudged closer together.

Development part two.

After the idea's below, I put the pen and paper to one side, and got my idea's up onto the screen. I also expanding on idea's, so some arent ones that have evolved from paper.

Heres a selected few a made on the computer. Nothing stood out to me enough, although to the bottom of that page I had the idea to turn the "on" of jepson to represent a on button. Idea would be that at the side it would reel of words such as "on target" or "on price" and other design related words. But this idea didnt go far because the look of it reminded me too much of a washing machine or hoover, because of the on switch, so I produced more pages based on other designs.

I then made these, no immediate decision or idea behind the look of them, it was just out of personal preference, I personally liked the aesthetic looks of this layout. To me was quite creative, not really seen a designers logo done like this. So prefered the fact it was slightly unique.

Development.

So, I decided to have a gander at other design based websites, to get an idea on where im heading, graphically. After flicking through I got the idea that to get a bit of a creative look, and compared to others, thought I would need to produce something a bit different, colourful. So headed to the drawing pad, to get through some ideas. Heres how that went.

More of Ledgard Jepsons Corporate Identity.

I am also going to take a look into other aspects of Ledgard Jepson to get a full view on there identity. So after looking at the website. I looked at some bit what was given to us on the brief-in (CD Cover, brochures, business card stationery etc) Basically most of the elements that will need changing for the re-brand brief.
Above is the CD cover and CD. As you can see, very simple, only drastic thing I think is the inside colours used. An Attention grabbing orange and green. Which is quite a juxtaposition on the rest of the I.D. The front of the CD is typical to the rest of the I.D.

Above is the Business card. Same consistent theme of bland clean etc, no exciting colours. As said, this is the look that we are trying to break away from. And I will aim to inject some creativity toward the design.

After flicking through Ledgard Jepsons brochure aswell, I thought that it all reminded me of looking through a stock image brochure. All boring business looking images, same layouts, and the teacher agreed with me on this.

Also In my opinion I dont think the website reflects the stationery. The website has more going for it than the stationary, although this might be because there is a lot of imagery used and colour.

A look into Ledgard Jepson.

Home Page

Portfolio page

I thought it would be best to start off and take a look into Ledgard jepson's website (Screen shots above).
First screen shot is of the home page. Now im not saying I dislike the look of the website, its very clean, easy to navigate, good color schemes, nothing clashes. I also admire the rollovers especially, they may only do simple effects but I like them because I realise that they may have been difficult to do (because I know I couldnt pull that off), and on the portfolio page the rollovers deliver the description or the piece of work. Which continues the theme of clean and simplistic.
All of this is good, but the reason for the re-brand brief is that it seems Dave Exley feels that it can all come across as boring, and doesn't exactly show off a big amount of creativity.
My problem is that the work they do (a lot of which is corporate I.D) reflects the theme of the website. And to implement a new theme is quite difficult when it could clash with the look of there work, this is why I want to find a midway point between clean simplicity and in your face creative. A balance between the both would be good but could be difficult to do.

Ledgard Jepson

This brief (my final major project) is to re-brand an existing design company called, Ledgard Jepson. The website already looks very corporate and clean of which I like although this can also come across as bland and boring.
After our first meeting with Dave Exley (Managing director) it seemed his views were the same. And from what he said it seems that the company needs more of a creative look.

What is needed for this brief is a full make over which will consist of new Stationery (Business cards, letterheads), website, logo etc.

First thoughts are to take a look into other design company websites, find the most creative ones, and some alike ledgard jepsons, and I would like my final designs to meet in the middle. To have both a creative and clean looking final design.
